Quality & Food Safety Technical Manager

We are searching for a Quality & Food Safety Technical Manager who has demonstrable experience within a relatable role in food/FMCG manufacturing to join a Harrogate based business who are embarking on an exciting growth period that will reward the successful candidate with excellent development and progression opportunities.

Key Benefits:

The Role

This role is critical to the ongoing growth and strategic direction of the business. Sitting within the Senior Leadership Team, this role is pivotal to ensuring a high standard of quality and conformity across products, processes, and behaviours. You will be the main point of contact for all technical and quality queries within the business and as such will have the opportunity to engage in wider group projects and be offered excellent potential growth and progression opportunities.

You will be responsible for the management of the Quality/Technical department including Food Safety, Quality, Environment, Health and Safety, Legislative and Customer Compliance. As a senior leader, you will guide, develop, and support you team and the wider business, fostering a culture of safety, excellence and engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Contribution: Ensure product and process conformity, guide site teams on quality and regulatory policies, and drive continuous improvement in quality standards.
  • People Management: Oversee the Quality function, manage resource planning, coach, upskill, and develop team members, and build a culture of safety and quality.
  • Performance Management: Maintain product quality, manage crisis situations, lead quality improvement plans, and conduct audits.
  • Compliance and Documentation: Oversee HACCP plans, technical documentation, product specifications, and legal labelling requirements.
  • Partnerships: Collaborate with Operations for seamless day-to-day running of the facility, manage customer and regulatory audits, and liaise with suppliers on compliance.

Key Qualifications:

  • Degree level or professional equivalent in food safety/manufacturing
  • Level 4 HACCP & Food Safety
  • NEBOSH General Certificate
  • Lead Auditor Qualification – extensive knowledge and experience of ISO14001/45001

Key Skills & Experience:

  • Previous experience in a similar quality-based role within food manufacturing
  • Working knowledge of GFSI, retail, food service and international standards
  • Expertise in food legislation, food chemical and microbiological requirements
  • Data analysis, presentation and spreadsheet manipulation
  • Strong reporting skills; comfortable relaying data and information to wider group and board
  • Familiarity with change management principles and methodologies
  • Ability to engage and inspire teams, leading by example
  • A confident and authentic leadership style with excellent coaching capabilities who leads with emotional intelligence.
