Enabling SaaS Growth: Supporting BigChange to Scale Sustainably

Our client BigChange is a job management SaaS business specialising in the field service management industry.

In 2020 we were invited in to meet with the HR Manager and Customer Service Director to explore how we could support the business in its search for key personnel initially within the technical support team.

Background

Covid hit shortly after the meeting and based on the immediate proactive approach we took in terms of our search and selection process on their behalf, which was then halted, they re-established contact in September of that year. We commenced our search and provided the business with following colleagues over the period of approximately 24 months:

1x Customer Digital Learning Manager
1x Customer Success Associate
2x Customer Success Manager
1x Digital Learning Designer
1x French Speaking RoadCrew Technical Support
1x French Speaking Sales Development Representative
1x Front of House Supervisor
1x Graduate Digital Learning Designer
1x Installations Coordinator
1x Job Card Developer
1x LinkedIn Lead Generator
2x Onboarding Manager
2x Onboarding Support Manager
1x Product Manager
9x RoadCrew Technical Support
10x Sales Development Representatives
1x Sales Development Representative Manager
2x Sales Support Executive
1x Senior Sales Development Representative
1x Solution Architect

Total = 41 new starters

NB. In late 2022, BigChange employed its own Talent Team who we continued to support until late 2023.

As a result of our robust process, we were able to unveil three significant facts that underscore the company's unwavering commitment to its people and its suppliers:

Performance Metrics

High Job Acceptance Rates

93% of individuals offered positions at BigChange accepted the job offer. This not only reflected the enticing opportunities and positive work environment that BigChange provided, but it also acknowledged Marmion's ability to understand their business needs, thanks to the cooperation of individual hiring managers. It ensured our bespoke advertising targeted individuals who genuinely desired the job.

Higher than average Employee Retention

Over our 3.5-year partnership with BigChange, an impressive 80% of our recruited talent were still thriving within the company at the time of writing this case study. Whilst we took credit for adeptly matching candidates to roles, much of this remarkable retention rate is attributed to BigChange's management, ensuring not just employee retention but also their ability to thrive within the organisation.

Promoting Growth from Within

37.5%* of the people we've placed at BigChange have been promoted! BigChange actively nurtures a culture of internal promotion, fostering a sense of community and loyalty among its team members. This commitment to internal growth positively shaped our attraction campaigns, highlighting career opportunities and enhancing engagement throughout the recruitment process. *Accurate as of writing this case study.

This report was provided to the outgoing Founder of the business, and when he went on to set up a new business, he engaged our services to support his recruitment activities.

Summary

This case study strongly demonstrates Marmion’s ability to recruit effectively across a wide range of job types, particularly in a specialised industry like SaaS and fleet/field service management. Key takeaways include:

  1. Diverse Role Coverage – Marmion successfully placed candidates across multiple functions, including customer success, sales, technical support, product management, learning and development, and even front-of-house roles. This highlights a versatile and comprehensive recruitment approach.
  2. High Acceptance Rates (93%) – This suggests Marmion excels at matching candidates with roles they genuinely want, ensuring both business and cultural alignment.
  3. Strong Retention (80%) – The fact that a significant majority of placed candidates remained in their roles underscores Marmion’s ability to identify individuals who not only fit the job requirements but also align with the company's long-term vision.
  4. Career Progression (37.5% Promoted) – The high rate of internal promotions among placed candidates indicates that Marmion is not just filling vacancies but identifying talent with growth potential.
  5. Client Loyalty – The fact that BigChange’s outgoing Founder re-engaged Marmion for recruitment at his new venture is a testament to the long-term value and trust established through the partnership.

Overall, this case study reinforces Marmion’s expertise in handling multi-role recruitment with a strategic and ethical approach, ensuring high-quality hires who contribute meaningfully to business success.

In late 2024 BigChange was acquired by Simpro.
