Legal Assistant – Commercial Property

  • Location: York
  • Salary: £24,000 - £28,000pa DOE

The Opportunity:

Our client, a highly respected regional law firm, is looking to appoint a proactive and organised Legal Assistant to support their busy Commercial Property team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced administrator looking to develop their career within a well-established commercial property department, with previous experience in legal, compliance, or professional services welcomed but not essential.

The Role:

As a Legal Assistant, you will provide comprehensive administrative and transactional support to solicitors and other legal professionals across a varied workload, including legal administration, client onboarding, document preparation, compliance activities, and file management, contributing to the smooth running of the department and wider office operations. You will also act as a key point of contact for clients, ensuring matters progress efficiently, accurately, and smoothly whilst maintaining compliance standards and delivering a high level of client care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting Fee Earners with the progression of commercial property transactions.
  • Opening, maintaining and closing client files within the firm's case management system.
  • Conducting client onboarding activities, including ID verification and AML checks.
  • Preparing legal documentation, correspondence and transactional paperwork as required.
  • Managing client communications and responding to routine enquiries in a professional and efficient manner.
  • Assisting with billing, accounts administration and financial records.
  • Maintaining accurate records whilst ensuring confidentiality and compliance at all times.
  • Providing diary management, document handling and wider administrative support to the department.
  • Supporting the wider office function, including reception and general administration when required.

The Candidate

We're keen to speak with organised and detail-oriented professionals who can confidently manage a varied workload while delivering exceptional service to both clients and colleagues.

Skills & Experience:

  • Previous administration experience, ideally gained within a legal, compliance, or professional services environment, although applications from candidates with relevant transferable experience are also welcomed.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  
  • High levels of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Professional and personable approach when liaising with clients and colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently whilst contributing positively to a team environment.
  • The following would also be beneficial but not essential; experience within Commercial Property, familiarity with case management systems, knowledge of AML & client onboarding systems and any legal administration qualifications.
