Quality Assurance Technician

Harrogate | £30,900 per annum | 25 days holiday | Shift rota including 1 weekend in 3

We’re searching for a Quality Assurance Technician to join the Quality department of a leading FMCG manufacturing business based in Harrogate. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in Quality Assurance, microbiology, food safety or laboratory-based testing, although applications will also be considered from graduates with a relevant science-based degree and a genuine interest in building a career within food manufacturing quality.

The Role

Reporting to the Quality Manager, you will support day-to-day quality assurance activity across the site, with a particular focus on the micro lab facility, Food Safety and Quality Systems, hygiene standards, documentation and product compliance. Working closely with Quality, Production and Operations teams, you will help ensure high standards are maintained across a busy, production-led environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the maintenance of Food Safety and Quality Systems.
  • Carry out hygiene surveys, microbiological testing, sampling and plating of finished product and plant-based samples.
  • Complete QA line audits, checking product quality, packaging standards and version control.
  • Maintain accurate written and electronic quality records, including sample results, investigation findings and Safefood 360 documentation.
  • Support complaint investigations, internal and external audits, equipment calibrations, stock checks and ordering of consumables.
  • Work collaboratively with Production and Operations teams to identify risks, resolve issues and support continuous improvement.
  • Work flexibly on a shift rota, including weekends and bank holidays where required.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Experience in Quality Assurance, microbiology, food manufacturing or a laboratory-based environment is desirable.
  • Graduates with a degree in natural sciences, biological sciences, food science, microbiology or a related discipline will also be considered.
  • Awareness of HACCP, food safety or quality assurance principles would be advantageous.
  • Strong attention to detail, good organisation and the ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Confident communication skills and the ability to work effectively across departments.
  • IT literate, proactive, safety-focused and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
  • A flexible approach to shifts is essential; a driving licence and access to transport would be advantageous due to occasional off-site borehole visits.

The Candidate

We’re keen to speak with candidates who are organised, detail-focused and comfortable working in a hands-on manufacturing environment. You may already have QA, technical, micro lab or food manufacturing experience, or you may be a recent graduate looking to apply your scientific knowledge within a supportive commercial setting. Either way, you will bring a positive attitude, willingness to learn and a genuine commitment to quality, hygiene and compliance.

If you feel you are suitable, please apply today by submitting your CV.
