New Product Development Manager

  • £50,000 pa (negotiable dependent on experience)
  • Leeds
  • Excellent company Benefits

Our client is part of a global payment solutions organisation, but operates independently in the UK. From the outset, it has consistently challenged its competitors by focusing on what counts, the needs of its commercial customers. Its ability in acquiring new business significantly year on year and increasing its market share can be attributed to its commitment to making the customer journey both transparent and simple. As part of it strategy for growth, this newly created role and the appointment of a creative Product Development Manager will enable it to increase its portfolio of value-added products further.

This is an exciting time to join the business especially as it has already demonstrated its strength and its strong position in the market by increasing profitability during the pandemic, and as this is an initiative led by the Managing Director you will have the support and freedom to take personal responsibility for driving, designing, building and managing the product development process.  We believe this role is probably going to appeal to an individual who is now ready for that next step in their career and whilst a background in automotive, fuel & energy payments would be helpful, it is not essential.  What is essential is a demonstrable and evidence-based background in the end-to-end journey and completion of commercial product development and project management.

You will be central to the construction of their ‘Beyond Existing Product’ product roadmap and, together with the project leaders, be responsible for the delivery of that roadmap. As mentioned, this is a high-profile role in which you will truly be able to make an impact on business growth, with accountability for results. Not only will you report directly to the MD, who is himself experienced in this field, you will also work in collaboration with the senior leadership team (sales, marketing, finance, and support) and wider group stakeholders.

The company is very engaged with its workforce and is keen to encourage them to be involved in creating its product roadmap, so you’ll be taking ideas from across the business, assessing the viability, developing and building on them effectively within budget and on time.  Ultimately you will be driving its product vision so that the business remains competitive in an evolving and highly challenging marketplace, communicating that vision to the rest of the company.

Core skills will be an ability to confidently analyse and understand this highly competitive marketplace. You will become the companies subject matter expert taking responsibility for the features of their products, making sure that the value to the business is clear with a clear vision of what the customer needs now and in the future.

Essential Requirements

Demonstrable experience of commercial product management in a new product development team, ideally within the automotive or fuel card industry.

 Experience of the following:

  • Rapidly deep-diving into an existing product and its commercial landscape
  • Product roadmap construction and maintenance
  • Using data to back product decisions and credibility
  • Engaging with real B2B users
  • Curious about keeping up to date with new developments in the automotive and fuel card industry, with the courage not to follow others, but to think how we can be different, and better.
  • Passionate about self and professional development
  • Authentic communication and relationship building skills – you’ll be working right across the business at all levels with a highly collaborative and supportive team.
  • A qualification in product management would be an advantage.
