Assistant Merchandiser

We are searching for an analytical and driven Merchandiser with experience managing product & category performance and sales analysis within a retail environment. You’ll be joining a growing, global, manufacturer based in Harrogate.

Key Benefits:

  • £30,000 pa, Negotiable, Dependent on Experience
  • Harrogate Based
  • Hybrid Working (3 days office, 2 from home)
  • 26 days holiday + bank holidays + 1 additional day per year, up to 31 days
  • Alternate Friday as paid day off – Outside of peak period

The Role

Reporting into the Head of Merchandising, this role is critical in supporting the implementation of our client’s commercial strategy. You will be crucial in driving commercial success by maximising revenue and profit, while ensuring the product range perfectly aligns with customer preferences and business goals. Using your experience to contribute to SKU and category forecasting, product allocation, and analysis, you will collaborate with all areas of the business to driving success, growth, and profitability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop accurate and timely sales forecasts for SKUs and categories, driving reliable decision-making.
  • Continuously review and analyse product portfolios to enhance performance, sales rates, and market positions.
  • Manage weekly sales and stock intake plans, optimising stock availability and aligning with business needs.
  • Maximising product and category success by managing demand, markdowns, stock intake, and returns efficiently.
  • Respond proactively to trading trends and opportunities, adapting in-season strategies for the best commercial outcomes.
  • Collaborate with marketing to prioritise SKUs and categories in campaigns, ensuring inventory supports promotional efforts.
  • Work closely with the Supply Chain team to mitigate risks and align with the commercial strategy.
  • Monitor competitor activities and market trends, making informed recommendations to strengthen the product offering.

Key Skills and Experience:

Our ideal candidate is an ambitious and driven Assistant Merchandiser/Senior Assistant Merchandiser within the retail sector that is looking to progress their career and join a growing business that will allow you to add value and create an impact across the full business. Ideally, you will be familiar with working with Far East supply chains, managing long lead times, and handling high seasonality. Familiarity with managing a high SKU count and working in a global retail context would be highly beneficial.

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a merchandising role, ideally within the retail sector.
  • Proven ability to drive demand, optimise sales, and manage gross margin effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to accurately forecast demand and identify trends.
  • Excellent Excel skills and experience in inventory management principles and techniques.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple teams.
